Aspen Glow QAL Prizes - YAY!

Sponsored by:

Can you believe we made it to the finish line of our Aspen Glow Quilt Along?  I know this sounds cliche, but I seriously feel like we just started a couple of weeks ago. I am seriously in love with my finished quilt top, though, and I can't wait to be snuggled up under it now that the colder weather is starting to set in.

My fabulous Long Arm Quilter, Darby of the Quilted Squid, is helping us celebrate the end of our quilt along by sharing a special offer with you!  She's offering any of her all-over quilting designs for just 1¢ per square inch on your Aspen Glow quilt or any other project you'd like to have her quilt.  Contact her at for a consultation.  You can check out her fantastic work on her blog and view her available quilting designs on her pinterest page.  Thanks Darby - you rock!!

Ok ... now on to the prizes!!  Using the super-high-tech method of scraps of paper drawn out of my favorite coffee mug, congratulations to ....

Cheryl of Texas Quilting Gal -  you've won ... A Shape Cut™ Plus Ruler from June Tailor

Liz of Life on Fluke Lane - you've won ... A Shape Cut™ Ruler from June Tailor

Susan, AKA SCKett - you've won ... Some Beautiful Paper Goods from Kate & Birdie Paper Co

Ela, AKA Rhiela - you've won ... A Dritz Collectible Cushions Tea Pot Pin Cushion

I know this tea pot was originally part of the prize package, but it was too cute not to share.  I have a few more in stock - a couple of people had asked me about them, but I can't find your names.  Just email me ( if you wanted to purchase one for $13+Shipping. :)

I'm emailing all of our prize winners this afternoon to get your mailing info!  Thanks again for making our Aspen Glow Quilt Along so great!  I'm going offline for a week or two, to catch up on a few things and to enjoy a stay-cation holiday week with my family.  Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!

Aspen Glow Quilt Along - Come Together!

Sponsored by:

Welcome to the Aspen Glow quilt along!  Over the past three months, we've beeen putting together quilts based on our popular Aspen Glow pattern.  Join us any time and share your photos in our Flickr Group to be entered into drawings for fabulous prizes!  You can access any of the previous posts on our QAL Information Page.

Can you believe that we're here on our final post?  We'll be holding the prize drawing this coming Sunday, 11/23/14, so there's still plenty of time to post photos for entries.  You can view more information on how that works in this post.

After something like 4 bobbins of thread this weekend, and some awesome-afternoon-nap-sewing-time, my quilt is complete!  I extended all of my white borders by 2" each, just to have a quilt finishing at a solid 100" square- be sure to read the border instructions included in the pattern to avoid wavy, wrinkly borders!

I'll share a photo of my finished top in Sunday's parade, but here are a few snapshots of the construction process, along with the beautiful willow tree that lives just beyond my sewing machine!  If you follow me on instagram, these will probably look familiar. :)

I finished pressing and clipping all the threads on my monster-of-a-quilt last night!  As much as I love this quilt, I'm happy that it's finally finished, and boxed up to be shipped to my long arm quilter!

This may come as a bit of a surprise, but with as many quilts as I've made over the years, I still have a comforter from Target on my own bed.  With the temperatures finally starting to drop here in the foothills, though, I can't even begin to tell you how happy I'll be to finally be able to snuggle up under it!

A quick note on our Parade post, scheduled for Sunday:  If you have a finished quilt (or quilt top) that you'd like me to share here on the blog, email me your photo, along with a link to your blog or flickr account, to CorasQuilts{at}gmail{dot}com.

What's New?

Aspen Glow is coming along slowly but surely!  I don't know what it is about this stage of the process - especially with huge quilts - but the closer I get to the end, the slower I seem to go and the more effort it takes to make myself work on it!

While I was procrastinating, though, I just happened to stumble on Lori Holt's Have Yourself A Quilty Little Christmas Instagram Sew Along.  I've been seeing her fun blocks pop up on my feed for few days now ... and last night I threw in the towel and joined too!

I just couldn't resist!  Ever since we finished our Spring Sampler blocks, I've really been missing having a small project that lets me get in a little bit of sewing time, just for me.

I don't have a ton of Christmas fabric in my stash, and certainly don't have any collections with the kind of colors needed for these blocks.  On a whim, I decided to use a Fat Eighths bundle of Wren's and Friends by Gina Martin for Moda, possibly with a few yellows from my stash thrown in.

I know that this line is meant to be a summery/fall-ish kind of line, but I think that the reds, greens, and browns, with the occasional splash of aqua and pink are translating really well as "Christmas-y" fabrics ... without looking too "Santa-ish."  Besides,  it'll be good to have a holiday project that won't scream "I still haven't put my Christmas Decorations away" when it's still out in February!

The majority of the blocks are taken from Lori's Quilty Fun book, but she's posted tutorials for a few new blocks on her Instagram feed as well.  Even if you're not planning on sewing along, you have to stop by her fee and check out her Gingerbread man block - so flippin' adorable!

Block #1 - House

Block #2 - Mug

Block #3 - Christmas Tree

I'm trying to force myself to finish pinning all my Aspen Glow rows together this morning, so that I can knock them out during nap time this afternoon ... but these blocks are so cute, that I'm not quite sure I can resist!

Aspen Glow Quilt Along Goodies!!!

Hi again!  We had a quick question about how to make sure you're eligible for our fabulous Aspen Glow QAL prizes, so here's a quick run down:

We broken the pattern into 10 steps:
Block ABlock BBlock CBlock DBlock EBlock FBlock AssemblySashing BlocksPutting It All Together, Finished Quilts

Our prize drawing will be on Sunday 11/23/14.  Share your photo(s) from each of the 10 steps in our Flickr Group.  Each step you share earns you an entry in the drawing and you do not have to have a finished quilt in order to be eligible to win.

If your fall has been as busy as mine and you're just getting started ... or if you just purchased your pattern ... there's still time to participate!  We'll accept entries until 11/22/14!

Three lucky quilters will win one of the fabulous sponsor prizes below, and everyone who shares a finished quilt top by the end of the year will win a Cora's Quilts .pdf pattern of their choice!

Aspen Glow QAL

Hi Aspen Glow Quilters!  Just checking in to see how we're doing on our quilts?  Feel free to post any questions here or on our Flickr Group discussion board.  Can't tell you how much I'm loving seeing all the different blocks come together.  It's acting as some serious motivation for me to get moving on my own project!!

I am super behind in my sewing!  When I planned out the timeline for our little Quilt Along, I tried to pick a finish date that was somewhere in between the fall and winter holidays, since we have people making both versions of the quilt!

What I didn't plan for was:
A: one 16 month old that decided he's not too crazy about napping {unless he's snuggled up with Momma} and who is so busy and mischievous that he requires CONSTANT supervision ... like don't take your eyes off him for a second!
B:  homemade Halloween costumes ... three of them.  Now, don't get me wrong, hubby did the majority of the constructing on his {super awesome} costume and the boys' costumes weren't too involved ... but my quilting stuff was displaced for over a week and  is requiring some serious pressing before anything else can happen!

C: a super fun, but super secret project that fell happily into my lap and that I love, love, love ... but can't share just yet.  How boring is that!
So ... hopefully I'll have some fun photos to share next week ... in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for a healthy nap session for the monkeys so momma can get some mad sewing in!  Happy Friday!

Loving Fall!

I feel a little bit guilty writing this post, since the majority of the country is being hit with a massive cold front ... but we're coming off of the most beautiful fall weekend!  The nights have been just cool enough to throw a quilt on the bed, but the days have been glorious!  Saturday and Sunday were both in the lows 80s, so we spent most of the weekend outside, riding bikes, hanging out at our favorite parks, and playing with lots and lots of cousins.

Needless to say, the boys needed a bit of a day to lay low and recover, but they rallied themselves enough this afternoon for one last trip to the park in shorts!  They were so excited to watch a little herd of deer hang out along the edges of the nearby yards and were really excited to point out the little splashes of fall colors down in the valley, below.

The Deciduous Tree and Wild Nature Survivor Guy episodes of Sesame Street are our favorites right now, so fall is kind of a big deal right now.

Since the weather is supposed to drop more than 10 degrees tomorrow and we have rain heading our way in another day or two, it was a great way to spend the afternoon before turning to more indoors-y activities.

I'll be back later this week with an Aspen Glow progress report and a knitting update - right now, though, I'm going to cozy up with a blanket and work on my NY Cardigan sleeves.  Happy Monday. :)

Aspen Glow QAL - Sashing Blocks

Sponsored by:

Welcome to the Aspen Glow quilt along!  Over the next three months, we'll be putting together quilts based on our popular Aspen Glow pattern.  Join us any time and share your photos in our Flickr Group to be entered into drawings for fabulous prizes!  You can access any of the previous posts on our QAL Information Page.
Ok - I'm totally cheating this week and combining our inner and outer sashing blocks post into a single post ... but these blocks are practically the same ... and if you're working on our wall-hanging size, you don't even have to make any Inner Sashing blocks!

These strips of blocks come together very easily - no seams or angles to line up!  If you have a few wonky blocks, just make sure that your strip has an overall straight-ish shape to avoid any puckers in your quilt top.

Be sure to share pictures of your quilt blocks and fabric choices in our Flickr Group and stop by and introduce yourself on our discussion board, if you haven't already!  Don't forget that sharing weekly photos enters you into our fabulous prize drawings.  Winners will be announced on 11/23!

If you have any questions or would like to share a blog post about your Aspen Glow project, just leave a comment below.  Happy sewing!

Super Mario Brother Quilt Along & BOM - Block 8: Coin

Our page has moved.

Sunday, November 2, 2014

Hi friends - I inadvertently fell off the blogging face of the earth this week!  Between homemade Halloween costumes, birthday parties, some killer, killer migraines, and the aftermath of what surely must have been a category 4 hurricane in my house ... because surely that's the only thing that could have created this BIG of a mess ... well, I'm just out of it and in need of a few recovery days.

For those Super Mario and Aspen Glow quilters - apologies!  I know I'm terribly behind, but should be caught up by the end of the week.  Thanks for your patience! XOXO
