Holding Pattern ...

Not much has changed here on the project front.

Both Stroll ...

... and Shiloh ...

... can't go any further until our friendly neighborhood UPS man drops off some packages.  Patterns are already written for both pieces ... we're just waiting on some photos of the finished projects!

I don't dare start any other new projects, as Mr. UPS is also bringing some goodies from Connecting Threads for a brand new, rather large project.  I just love their latest line, Indigo Patchwork.  I can't wait to see it in person!

So, while I'm waiting on my boxes, I'll be checking out all the great projects over at Design Wall Monday and Fabric Tuesday!

Fabric Tuesday

I'm in between large projects at the moment, and had the hankering over the weekend to play with some of the charm pack prints that we're currently carrying in the shop.

Our recent patch of beautiful, almost-fall mornings made "Honeysweet" by Fig Tree & Co the perfect choice!

For some time, I've been on the search for a pattern that's larger than a table runner, but that uses just ONE charm pack.  Finding inspiration on Pinterest in the form of this quilt and this quilt, I started playing with some very tiny Arkansas Crossroads quilt blocks.  Hoping to have more pictures to share soon!

In the meantime, please check out our "Aspen Glow" quilt kits ...

... and all the other fabulous projects going on in blogland at Quilt Story's Fabric Tuesday and Freshly Pieced's WIP Wednesday.  Happy sewing!

Design Wall Monday

Before I forget: Aspen Glow Kits are back in stock.  Hooray!  Available here.

Shiloh is back on the design wall today!

She's one of those projects that I always think will be a quick and easy finish when I sit down to work ,,, but then the paper piecing corners get monotonous ... and my crafting ADD takes me on to another project.  I'm determined to get her finished in the next week or two, though!

I'm still waffling on whether to sash or not to sash.

Over the weekend, Lynn suggested looking at the quilts in black and white to help make my decision:

Great advice!  Seeing it without color made me realize that while I like the quilt without the sashing blocks, I love how the quilt with the sashing adds a secondary floral pattern.  To me, it really adds a softness to the blocks that I really love!  I think, also, that because the blocks are actually made from a multitude of prints, not just a few as in the mock-up, the white sashing will add a bit of balance so that the colors and prints aren't overwhelming.

I'm linking up this week with these sites.  Be sure to stop by and see all the great projects happening in blogland.  Happy sewing!

To sash or not to sash ...

My little man is happily cooking away in his play kitchen this morning, while my littlest man is snoozing in his sling ... which means I'm managing to squeeze in a little kitchen table sewing!

While cleaning off the mountain that used to be my cutting table over the weekend, I came across the pieces of my Shiloh quilt.  While Civil War Repro prints have never been my niche, I love the fabric used in Barbara Brackman's line, Lately Arrived from London.

I have about a dozen Dogwood Violet blocks to finish ....

... but as I'm sitting here working, I'm starting to rethink my block arrangement.  Originally, I had planned on just sewing the blocks together:

Now, I'm wondering if I should add a small sashing border:

What do you think?  As I'm staring at the computer screen, I'm kinda loving how the added sashing creates a secondary star pattern among the blocks.  Maybe that's the way to go ....

Introducing ... Aspen Glow by Cora's Quilts

I'm so happy to finally be able to introduce ...

Aspen Glow

When I first saw “Winter’s Lane” - the gorgeous Christmas line by Kate & Birdie Paper Co. for Moda - it immediately reminded me of the beautiful, foggy Christmas Eve nights that we seem to always have here in the Sacramento valley.  We spend the evening with my husband’s extended family, making merry far into the night, and then enjoy a quiet drive home in the wee hours of Christmas morning while listening to my all-time favorite Christmas song, “Aspen Glow” by John Denver.

There is just something magical about the quiet beauty of the song, coupled with the fog-muted glow of the neighborhood Christmas lights.  My hope is that this quilt pattern captures a small bit of that beauty and serenity.

The pattern is finally available for download through our Etsy and Craftsy stores.

The pattern contains includes instructions for making three different quilt sizes in 22 pages of detailed instructions and full color diagrams.

A very limited number of quilt kits are available in our Etsy shop, as well.

We love to see your finished projects!  Be sure to share them in our Flickr Group or on Instagram using #CorasQuilts.
