Guest Artist!

I'm happy to announce that Poplun is featuring a guest artist for the fall 2009 season -- my grandma, Ginny!  We are featuring her absolutely beautiful hand knit scarves.  Some are knit with chunky yarn, and some are knit with eyelash yarn ... but they are all guaranteed to keep you nice and warm this fall.  The scarves -- over fifteen, in all, will be listed over the next few weeks, but just to give you a sneak peek ... here is the first.  Enjoy!

What's New?

Hey! Just popping in for a second. I'm really supposed to be study for a huge midterm (tomorrow @ noon!!!), but I'm taking a quick break to show you why I'd rather be in my sewing room than on the couch studying!

Of course it's new fabric!!  Fabulous Fall prints from Debbie Mumm!

**Update: unfortunately, the pictures were removed from JoAnn's website, but pictures of projects will be coming soon!!***

These two prints are destined for a couple of fabulous table runners and matching potholders -- the perfect hostess gift or to spruce up your kitchen and table for all those upcoming holiday parties! Keep checking the etsy store for the pictures!

What's New?

MY OH MY -- has it been a crazy couple of weeks!!!!!

You might have been wondering where I've been??? Well, Mom and I spent weeks working on the most wonderful baby blanket (if I do say so myself) for my little nephew, who is due in 3 weeks!!! He's the first grandchild on both sides, so he's a very special man, that deserves a very special blanket. Pictures are coming soon!!!!

In the meantime, I've been working on some greeting cards on the side, since it seems like I can't walk out of JoAnn's without scrapbook paper these days ...

Here are a few of my favorites. They large ones are available at my etsy shop in sets of six, and the smaller ones are available in sets of nine. Enjoy!

PS: A special "Hvala" goes out to our first public blog follower. Thanks Mom. :)

Which Book Is On My Nightstand?

Greetings! As I enjoy books just as much as I enjoy crafting, I'm adding a new feature to my blog: "Which Book is on my Nightstand?" I'd love to hear your thoughts or recommendations on where to turn next!

I have a bit of a bad habit of starting a second or third book, if I'm having difficulties getting through the first, as is the case with Book #1:

Hubby and I loved the movie, "The Prestige." I can't tell you how many times we've watched it. Usually when a movie I really enjoy is based on a book, I can read the book and enjoy it twice as much. Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case with this book. The book isn't bad ... it just isn't captivating my attention the way that the movie did. I'd like to think that I'll finally be able to finish this book this summer -- as it's the third or fourth time I've picked it up -- but I have a feeling it might be relegated back to the bottom shelf on the book case.

I read The Time Traveler's Wife for the first time about five years ago. With the movie releasing next weekend, I had to re-read it before heading to the theater. I'm interested to see how the book translates onto the screen. The previews look really fantastic, so the movie looks promising ... or it could be a huge let down. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and will let you know after seeing the movie this weekend with Hubby -- I get one movie a year that I get to drag him to, where he is not allow to poke fun at or make snarky comments ... unless I start it first, and then it's open season. I'm hoping this won't be necessary ....

What's New?

Wow! I can't believe how fast the summer is flying by! Hubby, pups, and I have been super busy, which is probably the main cause of my "Crafters-ADD." Because we've been flitting all over the place, most of my larger projects have been sitting idle! I have managed to get some small, fun projects accomplished here and there -- and have some larger projects that are almost ready for their debut!

Lately, on every trip into one of my local craft stores -- a (more than) weekly occurance, I assure you -- I've been stopping to thumb through the books of scrapbooking paper. While I haven't scrapbooked in years, I love all the textures, colors, and patterns. I finally had to bring some home and the results were ... greeting cards.

The cards are available for purchase at Poplun for $2.99 for a set of six cards.

I've also been experiementing with knitting this summer. It's a craft that I've never really been too fond of, but while perusing the discounted items at JoAnn's -- p.s.: if you're not on their email list, you should be, as they email out great coupons (ie. 40% off an item) every week -- I came across Learn to Knit Socks by Edie Eckman.

Now, since I can barely handle knitting and purling on two large-sized knitting needles without excessive profanity, I have no idea what possessed me to purchase this book, some beautiful grey bamboo-wool sock yarn, and not two, but four itty, bitty, little knitting needles ... but I did.

And, I'm happy to say -- much to his delight (insert sarcasm here) -- I am knitting the hubby a pair of socks to "rival" his favorites from REI. Sure, mine won't have "REI" emblazoned across the toes, but they sure will be pretty. As of the end of my lunch break, today, I have about 2 1/2" completed, although I've already had to start over three times. If the knitting gods stay with me, I should be able to post finished pictures --for at least one sock -- next week.

I already have my eye on some beautiful multi-colored yarn for my next project.

I've also started attending one of the monthly "Sew-In" nights at the Quilter's Corner here in Sacramento. The ladies were very friendly to me -- a newbie -- and it was so nice to be able to sit and sew for three hours straight! I'm definitely dragging Mom this month!

My first set of quilt patterns is almost finished, and I expect to be able to have the majority them available for sale at Poplun during the first part of September. Here's a sneak-peak of what's coming up....

In the meantime, two patterns from this collection -- the "Super Speedy Zig Zag Quilt" and the "Basket Weave Scarf -- a crochet pattern" -- should be available at Poplun by the end of August!

Check It Out!

What's New?

Once again I am marveling at how long it has been since I've posted!! Once again, grad school has completely taken over my life! I can't tell you how excited I am to be nearing the end of the semester, which means more time for my hubby and pups ... and of course, my projects!

I had a super-productive winter break and was able to finish 6 quilt tops -- one for a gift for my manager and her beautiful, new baby girl, two that I actually managed to quilt and bind, and three that are just waiting for something wonderful.

So, what's new? Lots! Here's a sneak peak at what's coming down the pike for POPLUN!

**Sacramento's 10th Annual Quilt Rush Shop Hop: April 22nd - 25th, 2009**

Mom & I are off for a girls day this Friday, the 24th, to plump up our stashes! The plan is to hit up five of the ten participating stores between Grass Valley and Elk Grove.

If you're ambitious, you can visit all ten stores between Stockton, Chico and Winters to collect all ten stamps on your passport, which then becomes your raffle ticket for some really great prizes -- including a $1,000 shopping spree!!

** Online Fabric Shop Hop at**

For those of you who don't feel like driving all over creation to feed you fabric addicition, here's a shop hop you can do in your pajama's from the comfort of your own home! Simply register your email address on the site and then hop from listed site to site -- search for the bunny logo while checking out all the great fabric and online shops out there. The more bunnies you find, the better prizes you can win!

During the March Shop Hop, I was excited to learn that I had won a gift certificate to I'm eagerly awaiting my shipment of fabric from the Henry Miller line, Dogwood by Michelle Engel Bencsko. Thank you to Gail at Quilt Patch Lane! My favorite piece in the coming shipment:

** Free-hand quilting **

Lately, I've been experimenting with free-handing quilting on my sewing machine. While I definitely am still getting the hang of it, I can't tell you how thrilled I am with the results! It is definitely a process that requires a relaxed frame of mind, but once you get into the rhythm of things, it's almost theraputic! I haven't completely finished any quilts yet, but here's a finished table runner:

** New Projects **
With all of the craziness at school, I haven't a lot of time to take on large projects. So instead, I've been sneaking time to work on some quick little projects. New to the poplun store this month are .... Potholders & Washcloths!!
I have to confess ... I got the ideas for potholders from some fellow etsy shops. They just looked like such cute, quick, little projects that I couldn't resist. They're made from two layers of fabric, plus a layer of batting and a layer of Insul-bright for heat protection. Quilt them ... bind them ... and they're done! This pair took me a little under an hour to finish!

Please click here for more pictures.
I've always loved to crochet, and so these spa-inspried washclothes were fun and super-quick. They're made with 100% cotton yarn and turned out so well, I'm thinking of keeping a set or two for myself!!
